Composition in Art Panel and Figure Drawing Workshop, Thursday Oct. 27th

Join us for a special evening at Gnomon Thursday, October 27th, starting at 7:00 P.M. Artists Cecil Kim, Nathan Ota and James Paick will share a panel discussing how they approach composition in their work by sharing examples of their process.

After the panel, stick around until 10:30 P.M. for a figure drawing workshop hosted by Gallery Girls and Sketch Theatre. This fun figure drawing event so close to Halloween will be Zombie-themed, with several models dressed (and undressed) in various creepy and deceased forms. Cecil Kim

Cecil Kim has been working as a concept artist and illustrator in the entertainment industry for the past 15 years. Cecil received his BFA in Illustration from Art Center College of Design. After graduating, Cecil was employed at Square USA, Inc., where he worked on the Parasite Eve and Final Fantasy IX projects. He later moved on to Sony Santa Monica, where he worked for over 11 years. Cecil worked on several hit games including the “God of War” series and was the Visual Development Lead for “God of War 3″. Nathan Ota

For years, Nathan Ota has been pursuing new worlds, both dark and fantastic, to explore in his paintings. Ota has used his stand-ins — a blind bird, a drunk monkey, a one-eyed robot lost in the woods — to travel through dreamlands that hold fantasies and tragedies, even landing him in the unlikeliest destination — the world inside the artist’s own studio. Nathan majored in Illustration and received his Bachelors degree with distinction honors at Art Center College of Art and Design, Pasadena Ca. 1993. Ota currently teaches Illustration, perspective and Thesis for Senior Digital Media at Otis College of Art and Design and drawing and painting at Santa Monica City College.

James Paick

James Paick graduated from Art Center College of Design, majoring in Illustration with an Entertainment Design focus. He has worked on various projects in the entertainment industry for NC Soft, EA, Sucker Punch, Zipper, Naughty Dog, Gary Goddard Entertainment and Wizards of the Coast. He currently works under his own company, Scribble Pad Studios. During his spare time he teaches at the Concept Design Academy located in Pasadena California. He also enjoys brisk walks in the park.
