Lighting and Rendering 2 - Gnomon Online
Learn the Core Features of Mental Ray
This course introduces the use of the Mental Ray renderer as it is implemented in Maya. Building on the foundation laid in 'Lighting and Rendering, 1', much of Maya's lighting toolkit works seamlessly with Mental Ray. There are several core features, however, that are unique to Mental Ray including global illumination, final gather, caustics, subsurface scattering, ambient occlusion and HDRI.
Course instruction examines adjusting, tuning and troubleshooting mental ray through real-world examples. The main focus of the class is to teach artists familiar with Maya how and when to use mental ray as their alternate renderer, as well as illustrating effective techniques for integrating CG elements with live-action backgrounds.
