Alex is the chief executive officer of the Gnomon School of Visual Effects in Hollywood, as well as the Gnomon Workshop, the Gnomon Gallery, Sketchtheatre, Gnomon Studios and CGchannel. After attending Art Center College of Design and University of Pennsylvania, Alex dedicated the last decade to educating students and professional artists around the world. He has been published in industry magazines, websites and books in addition to teaching classes at several major trade conferences.
Alex continues to work on personal and professional projects, including creating over thirty instructional DVDís, and working on block-buster films as a creature development artist such as James Cameron film Avatar, JJ Abramís Star Trek, and the DC Comics film adaptation of Green Lantern.
Darrin has worked as the chief administrative officer of the Gnomon School of Visual Effects since 1997. He is an alumnus of the Art Center College of Design where he studied transportation and industrial design. After graduating with a Bachelor of Science in product Design, Darrin was employed as an applications engineer for Alias|Wavefront where he received numerous awards including Outstanding Technical Support.
Darrin began his teaching career at Art Center College of Design while simultaneously working as an independent artist/consultant with entertainment companies such as Warner Bros., Honda, Sega and MCA/Universal. Darrin continues to teach his craft at Gnomon School of Visual Effects as well as creating multiple DVDs.
Patricia comes to Gnomon with over fifteen years of secondary and postsecondary educational experience. She holds a Bachelor of Art in English literature and a secondary teaching credential from California State University, Los Angeles and a Cross-Cultural Language and Academic Development (CLAD) certificate from University of San Diego. She previously taught writing at Art Center College of Design, including developing her own curriculum, and at Eagle Rock High School in Los Angeles. Her expansive background in curriculum development, program planning and classroom teaching in both secondary and postsecondary schools has continually enhanced Gnomon's pedagogical philosophies and provided need structure and organization to the school.
Director of Administrative Operations
Brian oversees Gnomonís administrative team and works closely with each department to ensure operations are running efficiently. Brian is involved with the development and implementation of administrative policies and processes and the strategic planning of administrative offices. He also serves as a student advisor, where he lends his experience as both a multi-department director and an alumnus of Gnomon. Brian has worked as head of admissions where he oversaw the development of Gnomonís outreach program and recruitment department. He has been with Gnomon since 2005.
Clark has worked at Gnomon since 2011 meets with prospective students and advises them of their educational options at Gnomon. Clark assess the needs and goals of each student and helps determine which path best suits their individual goals. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in animation from California State Northridge. Before joining the admissions department, Clark worked as an intern at Gnomon and has taken several individual courses focusing on traditional art, 3D and motion graphics.
Alida earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Virginia Commonwealth University and her Masters of Fine Art in sculpture at Tyler School of Art, Temple University. As part of the admissions team at Gnomon, Alida maintains prospective student records, handles prospective student inquiries, and assists with student recruitment.
Director of Compliance and Financial Aid
Michelle earned her Bachelor of Science in information science from Avila University in Kansas City, Missouri. Michelle joined Gnomon in 2007 with 10 years of experience in proprietary vocational school administration, accreditation, immigration and Title IV approval. She directs governmental compliance and oversees all aspects of Gnomonís financial aid office.
Financial Aid Officer
Nick received his Bachelor of Fine Art in illustration from the Herron School of Art at Indiana University. As financial aid coordinator, Nick provides students and parents with financial aid counseling and support.
Director of Placement and Alumni Relations
With 15 years of experience in the entertainment industry including a decade as a visual effects artist on over 30 feature films, Shannon lends her expertise to Gnomon by matching our artists with industry projects. She serves as a faculty advisor and has ensured that over 95% of our graduates are placed at jobs within their field. Shannon holds a Masters of Fine Art in television and film from Loyola Marymount, and a Bachelor of Art in mass communications from the University of Denver.
As Gnomonís Registration Specialist, Paulli is responsible for all aspects of student registration, maintaining student records, and assisting with quarterly scheduling of classes. She works directly with both staff and students to ensure that our registration procedures run efficiently while simultaneously providing skilled customer service to Gnomonís students. Paulli has been with Gnomon since 2010, and is actively pursuing her Bachelors of Arts.
Mark holds a Bachelor of Art in computing in the arts from University of California San Diego. Mark works closely with the accounting and records departments to refine Gnomon's billing procedures, oversees the student store, and plays a large role in maintaining the financial side of student billing.
Bursar's Assistant/Store Associate
Amanda earned a Bachelor of Fine Art in animation from Savannah College of Art and Design in Georgia. Amanda works closely with the bursar/store manager to keep the student store running smoothly. She also assists with registration and billing procedures.
Office Manager/Event Coordinator
Crystal graduated with a Bachelor of Art in animation from the Southwest University of Visual Arts. As Gnomon's office manager and event coordinator, Crystal ensures that Gnomonís daily operations run smoothly and events are organized and planned to perfection.
Student Records Coordinator
Kate holds a Bachelor of Science in marketing from DePaul University. Combining her experience in marketing, customer service, and office administration, Kate strives to provide Gnomon students and guests with exemplary service and support.
Art Director/Creative Advertising
Eric Carl is Gnomonís Art Director and Creative Advertising lead where he oversees and builds information architecture, visual design, technical implementation and maintenance of Gnomon School website. He also teaches Gnomonís Graphic Design courses. He is an alumnus of Vincennes University where he studied visual communication.
Danielle studied graphic design from the University of Nevada Las Vegas where she received her Bachelor of Art. As Gnomon's Designer, she assists in the visual design for Gnomon's print and web advertising as well as the maintenance of the school's website.
Director of Education
As Director of Education, JJ's responsibilities include ensuring that the Education Department and all scholarly pursuits meet accreditation and regulatory standards. She holds a Bachelor of Art in anthropology from U.C. Berkeley and a Master of Professional Writing degree from USC, where she was also an instructor in the Anthropology and Writing Departments for four years. She brings with her significant experience in postsecondary curriculum development, accreditation procedures and instruction.
Associate Director of Education
Mark is currently an Associate Director of Education and a seasoned instructor at Gnomon School of Visual Effects. Mark serves as a faculty advisor where he assists students with class and track selection, as well as portfolio development. In tandem with other department members, Mark procures highly qualified teachers for Gnomonís Animation and Modeling/Texturing tracks. Mark graduated from the Gnomon School of Visual Effects in 2006, and holds a Bachelor of Art in Film and Television from Columbia College. Mark hones his craft by working as a freelance artist with professional houses such as: Double Helix, Robomodo, and Civic Entertainment Group, to name a few.
Jillion received a Bachelor of Art in English with an emphasis in teaching preparation from Chapman University as well as a Single Subject Teaching Credential from Point Loma Nazarene University. Jillion supports the Director of Education in procuring highly qualified instructors and maintaining Gnomon's high academic standards. Additionally, she oversees the Lab Monitor/TA Program and maintains documentation related to the Education Department.
Director of Distance Education/CTO
As Chief Technology Officer, Eric is responsible for the long term, strategic design and management of Gnomonís technology infrastructure, support and standards. His responsibilities as Director of Distance Education are focused on the oversight of curriculum, academic practices and technology development within Gnomonís distance education model. His years of experience in the information technology field, both in the corporate and entertainment arenas, combined with his artistic background and industry experience, ensures that Gnomonís Distance Education model, and the Technology division as a whole, remains innovative and aligned with Gnomonís mission. Eric earned an Associate of Arts degree in Fine Art from Diablo Valley College, studied Fine Art and 3D Animation and Design at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, and is a graduate of Gnomonís Certificate Program.
Director of Systems Administration
Anthony Almanzor holds a Bachelor of Science in materials science and engineering from UCLA. He works as Gnomonís system administrator and his responsibilities include the design, installation, configuration, administration and support of Gnomon's local-area network (LAN), internet systems, servers and workstations (Windows, OSX and Linux). Anthony also oversees the administration and support of all operating systems and software on Gnomon networks.
Associate Director of Technology: Research & Development
As the Associate Director of Technology: Research & Development, Max is responsible for the research and analysis of a variety of technologies, tools and techniques utilized within the entertainment arts arena, along with the development of internal training processes and procedures in support of all technology initiatives affecting Gnomonís Administration and Education Divisions. He also identifies and procures top industry professionals and artists as qualified instructors for Gnomon. Max has several years of professional industry experience and has served as the Associate Director of Education for Gnomon and as an instructor. His background ensures that the documentation and training required for Gnomonís technology initiatives is delivered using the same high standards are our educational curriculum. Max is a graduate of the Gnomon School of Visual Effects Certificate Program, and also studied at Ivy Tech and Indiana University-Purdue.
Learning Resource Coordinator/Systems Engineer
Tom is responsible for managing our school library, and assisting Gnomonís staff, students and instructors. Tom maintains student attendance records, prints and copies instructional materials, maintains and troubleshoots student software and hardware on a daily basis, and installs software at the end of each term. Tom received an Animation Certificate from Gnomon in 2008.
TA Coordinator/Systems Engineer
While completing a Digital Production in Entertainment Certificate at Gnomon, Skot began working as a lab monitor and then a lab technician. Since graduating, Skot divides his time between freelance work in 3D modeling/graphic design and working at Gnomon. He brings to the job 15 years of management and supervisory experience in art-related industries and a certificate in comic book illustration from The Kubert School.
After completing a B.A. in fine art and computer science from Washington State University, Charley continued his education at Gnomon, earning a certificate in 2005. He has over a decade of experience building computers and troubleshooting hardware, as well as a creative background, including extensive skills with image compositing. As a former student, he is well equipped to assist students with software concepts and lend perspective on course material.
John earned a B.A. in art from Cal State Los Angeles before completing Gnomonís certificate program in 2008. He brings to his position years of experience with both art and technology, in particular an understanding of 3D software and animation. He continues to take classes at Gnomon to stay current with emerging technologies.
Director of Industry Relations
Travis has assisted in the production of over 80 of Gnomonís professional level training DVDs and he is responsible for scheduling and planning Gnomon Live workshops. He also lends his talents to CG Channel. Travis has been with Gnomon since 2005.
Admissions Outreach Representative
As Gnomonís admissions outreach representative, Jason travels to high schools, community colleges, and trade shows to educate prospective students about Gnomonís training options and provide information about careers in the entertainment industry. He has represented Gnomon at Industry trade shows including Siggraph, Game Developerís Conference and Comi-Con. Jason received his certification in 3D Animation, Visual Effects, and High End Computer Graphics from Gnomon in 2011.
Admissions Outreach Representative
Anna received her Bachelor of Art in Public Policy from the University of Michigan in 2009 and has a background working with youth in arts and education. As Outreach Representative, Anna travels to various high schools, colleges, and trade shows to introduce Gnomon as a training option for artists looking to develop their skills in visual effects and find a successful career within the entertainment industry.
