Celebrate National Read a Book Day by stepping away from your computer and cracking open one of these books instead!

Gnomon’s team of instructors is full of working professionals, amazing artists, and industry experts, but did you know that some of them are also authors in addition to all of their other outstanding qualifications? Not just satisfied by practicing and teaching traditional and digital arts and production, they’ve penned works about their respective fields as well!

For National Read a Book Day, we’re highlighting instructors and their works, so grab one of these books for a chance to learn about your favorite subjects in a comfy reading chair instead of from your computer monitor.

Christian Bloch is an Emmy-nominated visual effects artist and pioneer in real-time virtual set creation through photogrammetry. Christian currently teaches the Digital Photography course at Gnomon and is author to the HDRI Handbook series.

April Connors is a traditional dynamic figurative illustrator and visual development artist whose works have been exhibited world-wide. April currently teaches Gnomon’s Gesture Drawing class and has authored a book on the subject as well:

Eric Keller may be best known around Gnomon for his amazing work in scientific visualization (and fire ant metal band animations), but his creature modeling expertise has earned him credits on movies like Star Trek: Beyond, 10 Cloverfield Lane, and Krampus. Eric has worked on numerous series including:

Robert “Bob” Pastrana has been a part of the Gnomon team for nearly twenty years and currently teaches the Color Theory and Light course on campus. In addition to teaching at Gnomon, Bob freelances for clients including AARP, Amazon, Dell, Forbes, Microsoft, Playboy, Visa and numerous others. His books include:

Maddie Scott Spencer, a 3D artist at Double Negative with credits on titles such as Pete’s Dragon, Independence Day: Resurgence, Avatar, and The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, is one of Gnomon’s online course instructors and currently teaches the Creature Modeling and Sculpting and Digital Sculpting classes. Maddie has penned a handful of books under the nom de plume “Scott Spencer,” including:

Want to step outside the realm of art and production? CG supervisor, artist, and Gnomon Educational Lead Beau Janzen has you covered. Beau has over twenty years’ experience in digital animation production and is credited on shows including Westworld, The Walking Dead, and Stranger Things. In addition to contributing to series like Eric Keller's Mastering Autodesk Maya, he also writes about mathematical visualization!
